Alberto Lescay Merencio

 

Alberto Lescay Merencio (Santiago de Cuba, 1950).
Escultor, pintor, dibujante.

Con más de 25 años de vida artística. Fundador de la Columna Juvenil de Escritores y Artistas de Oriente y la Brigada Hermanos Saíz. Miembro de la Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba y la Asociación Internacional de Artistas Plásticos.

<== The Maroon Monument forms a part of an international project of UNESCO, The Slave Route, which, once finished, will include a thematic museum on slavery and the exploitation of the copper mines, considered the oldest colonial era mines in the Americas. Discovered by the Spaniards in the XVIth century, these copper deposits gave their name to the nearby town: Santiago del Prado de El Cobre. Ha realizado 35 exposiciones personales y ha participado en múltiples exposiciones colectivas en Cuba y otros países.

Autor de la figura ecuestre de Antonio Maceo y director del equipo multidisciplinario que proyectó y ejecutó la Plaza de la Revolución homónima en Santiago de Cuba, 1991.

Entre sus obras escultóricas podemos mencionar, además, el Monumento al Espíritu Guerrero, en Puerto Cabello, Venezuela; Monumento al Cimarrón, Poblado de El Cobre, Santiago de Cuba; Conjunto escultórico Jardín del Amor, Teatro Heredia, Santiago de Cuba; Escultura de Ernesto Che Guevara emplazada en el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba, Ciudad de La Habana; Monumento al Neg Mawo, sobre un diseño original del artista martiniqueño René Corail, en Le Lamentin, Martinica; Monumento a Rosa La Bayamesa, Provincia Granma, Cuba.

Su versión escultórica de José Martí se encuentra ubicada en el Memorial que lleva este nombre, en la casa natal , ambos en Ciudad Habana y en diversos países del mundo, siendo ésta la visión más contemporánea del Héroe Nacional.

Creador de la Fundación Caguayo para las Artes Monumentales y Aplicadas, una de las instituciones que colabora en la promoción y realización del Festival del Caribe

   

Alberto Lescay for the first time in Matanzas

As a pleasant surprise at the summer season, the famous Cuban painter and sculptor Alberto Lescay will be exhibiting his work, from August 11th until the first days of September, in Matanzas .

The main hall of the Pedro Esquerre galery, will be the stage for the public to enjoy of this personal exhibition made by Lescay. Called Tambor de fuego (Fire Drum), it has paintings, drawings and small and big sculptures.

The artist, born in Santiago de Cuba province, expressed his satisfaction for meeting for the first time with the public of Matanzas , a city called the Athens of Cuba. On Saturday night he was the guest at the show Invitación Entre Puentes (Invitation between Bridges), presented by the critic Fernando Rodríguez Sosa.

On August 12th, there was the presentation of a multimedia that shows the live and work of Lescay. This presentation is expected to be held at the gallery Pedro Esquerré. The 13th in the morning local artists joined the guest at the doorway of the cultural institution to make a plastic work.

The long day to pay tribute to the also president of the Caguayo Foundation, responsible in Cuba of the monumental sculptures, will end with the resent number of the Casa del Caribe magazine that is printed in Santiago de Cuba. The presentation will be made by Lorenzo Jardines, deputy director of the cultural entity.

Alberto Lezcay, is the author of the monumental equestrian sculpture of Antonio Maceo, located at the Revolution Square of the same name in Santiago de Cuba . He has several recognitions and awards in national and international competitions.
