Merceditas Valdes (1928-1996)

A grand dame of Cuban fokloric and popular music.  Born in La Habana the 14 of October, 1928. Began in the Corte Suprema del Arte, then turned to afrocuban material.  Traveled with the Compañía de Ernesto Lecuona. Worked under Obdulio Morales. Gave demos for  Fernando Ortíz's lectures on African roots..
