Smithsonian Folkways

Smithsonian Folkways is the Smithsonian Institution's label. Their most recent release is "Cuba in Washington," a great favorite of Jesse Helms which features Afrocuba de Matanzas, Grupo Changui de Guantanamo, and Cuartelo Patria y Compay Segundo, recorded in 1989. Terrific liner notes compiled by an assembly of scholars, including Rene Lopez and Andrew Schloss, the organizer of Afrocubanismo in Banff. .

The Smithsonian Folkway site can be searched and if you just look for Cuba, you will find 29 entries, including a priceless recording of Nicolas Guillen reading his poetry.
